Power of Tourettes
I'm thinking of doing a professional PowerPoint on Tourettes and putting it on here. I think it would do a lot of people a lot of good. I just wish somehow, teachers and other people would use it to educate themselves and then others.
I really want to change the perspective of people who think Tourettes is just one thing- swearing. I've said god knows how many times that that's not true. It would be good for people of over 10 years old to understand so then this lessens the prejudice against people with Tourettes.
If the PowerPoint showed how hard it is to live day-to-day life with Tourettes, hopefully, it would stop any bullying that might occur. It's horrible that bulling does happen because tics can't be helped. I'd try any way possible to get this information in schools. Any way that stops Tourettes being seen as just swearing and to help people develop a deeper understanding of it. It's not fun, it's not pretty and it's definitely not glamourous. Some tics hurt and can even maim people. Other tics are debilitating for the suffererer. It's not fun.
I'd also show the bright side of Tourettes- such as if you're a girl with Tourettes, then you're quite a rare case because boys are three times as likely as girls to have Tourettes. It can be funny if you've got unpredictable vocal tics as you never know what you are going to say. I would definitely mention the different types of tics and how they can affect a person.
Another thing I would include is how to treat someone with Tourettes. Everyone needs to know that people who suffer from Tourettes are the same as them, they're just a bit more quirkier! They need to know that it is not okay, in any way, shape or form to mock someone who has tics and that saying mean things such as, "People with Tourettes are dumb," is never acceptable. All I've got to do know, is to do this PowerPoint and somehow get it into places to educate people- be it schools or some other place.
Joke of the day: "Do you know what the last thing my grandad said to me was before he kicked the bucket? He said, 'Grandson, watch how far I can kick this bucket!'"
